April 2008-present (Southeast Environmental Research Center, Miami, FL) Ecological Research Associate. Responsible for organizing and analyzing data on woody plant invasion into the marl prairie habitat of the Cape Sable seaside sparrow. Responsibilities also include writing, designing figures and presentations, and statistical analyses.
May-June 2008 (Florida International University, Miami, FL) Adjunct Professor. Taught Ecology of South Florida lecture. Designed and conveyed lectures covering principles of ecology and South Florida ecosystems to a class comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students. Designed and administered exams, guided course projects, and graded materials.
April 2007-April 2008 (Florida International University, Miami, FL) Research Assistant. Involved in gathering, processing and analyzing field and laboratory data for multiple South Florida ecological research projects. Expanded and restructured fire history geodatabase for Everglades National Park. Additional responsibilities include: co-authoring papers, designing figures using ArcGIS and statistical software, assistance with presentations and web page design.
May 2006-April 2007 (Southeast Environmental Research Center, Miami, FL) Ecological Researcher. Responsible for collecting, processing and analyzing field and laboratory data related to South Florida wetland ecology.
June-July 2006 (Florida International University, Miami, FL) Adjunct Professor. Taught Ecology of South Florida labs. Conducted field and laboratory activities covering local ecology, species identification and conservation.

January-April 2004 (University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA) Directed Research Project on Sampling Techniques for Biodiversity Studies. Undergraduate research project in Terrestrial Ecology to study the accuracy of sampling techniques in modeling changes in populations. Worked to develop a correction factor for the Point-Center Quarter and the 3rd Nearest Neighbor techniques. Co-authored resulting publication (Bakus et al. 2007; see below).
May-August 2003 (San Diego State University, San Diego, CA) Isotope Geochemistry Laboratory Intern. Worked in isotope geochemistry lab performing lead isotope separations from basaltic rocks from Iceland for isotope analyses used in modeling the evolution of the Earth’s mantle.
